About The Road Safety Champions Program For Kenya Scouts Building partnerships that create lasting road safety impact across Kenya

Building partnerships that create lasting educational impact across Kenya.

The Program

The Road Safety Champions Program for Kenya Scouts Monitoring System, designed by First Step Road Safety Initiatives, is implemented in partnership with the Kenya Scouts Association and key road safety organizations, including the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Traffic Police Department.

We believe the Kenya Scouts movement has significant potential to serve as agents of change in matters of road safety. With a membership of over 4.4 million school children and young adults, who represent more than 18% of the entire school and college population in Kenya, this provides a huge opportunity to drive positive change in societal attitudes and behaviors related to road safety.

Program Objectives:
  • Engaging over 4 million students who are registered as scouts in Kenya.
  • Introducing road safety discussions in schools to encourage better road user behavior.
  • Empowering future road users to make informed choices about walking, crossing streets, and staying safe as passengers.
  • Promoting active community participation in road safety initiatives.
  • Equipping scouts to act as change agents in developing a strong road safety culture across the country.
  • Conveying the importance of understanding the interplay between road transport, the road environment, road users, and their role in road accidents.

Through employing interactive and engaging teaching methods, we aim to boost both knowledge retention and interest in road safety. Our evaluation strategies include community engagements and road safety competitions designed to assess knowledge gained through various teaching and assessment tools. This competitive approach encourages learners to strive for excellence, aligning closely with the program’s objectives.

We believe that students who receive proper training in road safety will exhibit greater awareness and responsible behavior as both current and future road users compared to those who do not receive such education. Furthermore, we expect to see a tangible change in behaviors among current and future road users by the end of this three-year program.

Why Sponsorship Matters

Many schools across Kenya face financial challenges that limit their ability to provide road safety education and related activities. This is mainly due to:

  • Lack of prioritization of road safety education due to resource deficiencies in schools.
  • Declining allocation of resources and diminishing road safety interventions.
  • Inadequate communication on road safety matters due to financial constraints.
  • Lack of resources to initiate and nurture partnerships focused on road safety.
  • Reduced interest and limited community involvement in road safety activities due to insufficient support.

With secured sponsorship, these challenges will be addressed, and essential road safety interventions will be effectively implemented through this program.

Our Commitment

We are committed to transparency, accountability, and impact delivery. Every sponsorship is tracked, every contribution is acknowledged, and every partner becomes part of a transformative journey to safer roads.

Together, we can build road safety champions with changed attitudes and mindsets.
